Apply to Speak
TEDxBurleigh Heads is now open for speaker submissions. We are looking for bold, original and meaningful ideas that spark curiosity, challenge assumptions and inspire new ways of thinking. We welcome ideas from every discipline, because some of the most powerful insights emerge when different worlds collide.
A TEDx talk is not a lecture, a keynote, a workshop or a promotional pitch. It is a story built around one clear idea worth spreading. The strongest talks surprise us, challenge us or reveal something we have not seen before. They are grounded in evidence, insight or lived experience, fuelled by genuine curiosity and delivered in a way that takes the audience on a memorable journey.
Not every idea is a TEDx idea, and not every story is suited to the TEDx format. We cannot accept talks that promote political agendas, commercial interests, religious advocacy or pseudoscience. Speakers should also be prepared to commit to a coaching and rehearsal process, culminating in a polished talk delivered from memory within a strict time limit.
If this excites you and you believe you have an idea worth spreading, we would love to hear from you. Please read the Speaker FAQ below before submitting your application.

Speaker FAQ
What makes a strong TEDx talk idea?
A strong talk presents one clear idea worth spreading. It should offer a new perspective, challenge an assumption or reveal something surprising. TEDx talks are about ideas, not speeches about work, promotions or programs.
Do I need to work in education to apply?
No. Our event is centred on education, but you do not need to be a teacher or school leader. We welcome ideas from sport, wellbeing, science, innovation, community work, youth development and any field that shapes how people learn and grow.
Do speakers get paid?
No. TEDx events are run by volunteers and speakers participate as a contribution to the community. We do provide guidance, coaching and support to help shape your talk.
How long is a TEDx talk?
Talks at TEDxBurleighHeadsED will generally be between eight and twelve minutes. Your idea should be able to fit inside that timeframe clearly and confidently.
Can I promote my business or product?
No. TEDx talks cannot be used for commercial promotion or advertising. Your talk must focus on an idea, not an organisation.
Will the talk be filmed?
Yes. All talks are filmed and published through TEDx channels. By applying, you agree to be recorded and allow your talk to be shared publicly.
What happens after I apply?
Our team will review all submissions and shortlist applicants for a follow up conversation. Successful speakers will then be supported to shape and rehearse their talk in the lead up to the event.
